Prospectus
AIMS
Our aim is to provide a warm, caring, safe and stable environment in whichyour child can play and learn in our large open plan nursery. The basis of our nursery philosophy is to satisly the children's emotional, social, physical and educational needs through play in a warm, homely atmosphere. Within this philosophy we encourage the children to respeet each other, the staff; the nurery and personal property and help them to gain a flill understanding of right and wrong.
OPENING HOURS
The nursery is open from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday. It will close on all Bank Holidays and for the period between Christmas and the New Year.
Morning session is 7.30 am until 1.00 pm and the afternoon session is 1.00 pm until 5.30 pm.
HOLIDAYS
You are entitled to two weeks holiday from your child's normal sessions per calendar year, where you are required to pay half fees. All other holidays and absenteeism due to sickness or any other reason must be paid for in full.
MEALS
The fees include mid-morning snack / drinks, lunch and tea. All food is prepared on the premises. Fresh food is incorporated as much as possible into the daily diet,, 8nd children encour~ged to regard mealtimes as happy, social occasions special diets are catered for.
STARTING AT THE NURSERY
Once you have discussed a nursery place with the manager, you should arrange to visit the nursery. You will be encouraged to ask questions and spend as much time as you think it necessary to feel positive and happy about the nursery environment. You will be asked to complete an information and consent form, which records vital information about your child, including medical history, special needs, dietary requirements, permission for outings etc.
After the initial visit to the nursery and subsequent take up of a place, a member of staff will be allocated to each child and parent / carer, to act as their keyworker. This keyworker will settle both you and your child into the nursery, helping to increase your child's confidence and security within the setting.
CHILDREN'S BELONGINGS
We would ask you to ensure your child has one full, named, change of clothes that can be kept at the nursery, in the event of mishaps during the day. Also nappies, creams and wipes need to be provided if your child requires them.
COLLECTION
To ensure the children's safety and that they are collected from the nursery according to specific instructions, we ask you pay particular attention to the simple procedures below.
* All adults responsible for collecting your children on a regular basis must be known to our nursery staff
* If an unfamiliar person comes to collect your child, they will be refused. We will seek to confirm with you the identity of the collector and 'will act on your instructions.
* Please let us know if your child will be collected at a different time than usual, in order that we can allay any concern the child may have, and ensure our staffing arrangements are appropriate.
ILLNESS
Any signs of illness of any kind of a child not being themselves should be discussed with staff on arrival. This includes any bumps or bruises incurred at home. You will be notified immediately of any illnesses that becomes apparent during the nursery day, which requires treatment outside the nursery. If your child requires any prescribed medication whilst at the nursery, written permission is needed and the parents / carers are to sign the medical book.
ACCIDENT RECORD
An accident record form will be completed for any accident to a child however slight, which takes place while he or she is in our care. The form will be completed as soon as possible after the child's own welfare has been taken care of to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible.
SPECIAL NEEDS
In order to allow integration of children with special needs into the nursery, children are assessed on an individual basis to confirm that we can provide the appropriate level of special care which is necessary without detriment to other children attending the nursery. We actively encourage liaison with professional agencies relating to care, treatment and therapy of the child.
CURRICULUM
At the nursery we will provide your child with a wide and varied curriculum to enable them to make maximum progress towards achieving the early years goals as set out by the Government.
MATHEMATICS
Children are introduced to elementary skills such as sorting, counting, matching and recognising shapes in a practical fun way, through play and games.
PERSONAL AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Children will learn how to work, play, co-operate with others and function in a group beyond the family. This area of development covers important aspects of personal, social, spiritual and moral development, including the development of personal values and an understanding of self and others.
LANGUAGE AND LITERACY
As good communication skills are essential we aim to help children become competent in English, making use, where appropriate, of their developing understanding and skills in other languages. We focus on the children's developing competence m talking and listening and becoming readers and writers.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD
Children are encouraged to be aware of the world around them, as well as closer to home. We aim to develop the children's interest and understanding of people, animals, history and geography.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
Children will learn how to develop physical control, mobility, awareness of space and manipulative skills in indoor and outdoor environments. We aim to establish positive attitudes towards a healthy and active way of life. Children have the opportunity to use a large range of small and large equipment to develop their increasing skills.
CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT
Children are encouraged to develop their imagination, their ability to communicate and express their ideas and feelings in creative ways through play, music, art and drama
